The Third Grade students will begin their classroom book on Eucharist, Do this in memory of me, this Wednesday, January 23rd. This includes the Holy Name students. There are classes for grades 1 - 8 this week from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. here at church. And there is class for the Confirmation students Sunday, January 27, after the 10:00 a.m. Mass. Is there anyone in the parish who does calligraphy and would be willing to do some for Faith Formation? Please call Cathy in the office.
You and your children have learned, or will learn about the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. The theological term that describes this way Christ is really present in the consecrated bread and wine is ___________. This belief says that the substance of bread is changed into the Lord’s Body, and the substance of wine into his Blood. The “appearances” (sometimes called “accidents”) of bread and wine including the shape, color, weight, and taste remain those of bread and wine. This reality is only recognizable through the eyes of faith. Catholic teaching on the Eucharist emphasizes the strength and inspiration we receive from Jesus’ Real Presence-this food nourishes us for our journey through life. At Mass we eat the Body of Christ to become the Body of Christ; to be Christ’s presence in the world today. Is this belief supported by Scripture? Take a look in 1 Corinthians, chapter 11: verses 23-26. (New American Bible) St. Paul writes, “For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes.” Can you fill in the blank? To be continued……
Congratulations Tyler Retlich, Gabe Smith, Bishop John Doerfler, Daniel Martin, and Karly VanDrese (missing is Kristin King) on your confirmation!
