This Sunday is Catechetical Sunday. This is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. It is also an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.
If you are old enough, you might remember the Baltimore Catechism question, “Why did God make me?” I would ask the children each week before the start of class that question. They would answer to the best of their ability depending on how old they were. Maybe we should ask ourselves that question. Why did God make me? God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in the next.
We are still in need of Catechists for First Grade, Fourth Grade, Fifth Grade, and Ninth Grade. We cannot start classes until there is a teacher for every grade level. There is a quote by Gary Zimak taken from the book “Stop Worrying & Start Living.” “Pay attention to what is happening around you. There’s a good chance that God is speaking to you without using words.” We are in need and God is tapping your shoulder. :0)
If you are interested in becoming a Catechist, and have not attended a VIRTUS training, you will need to attend a VIRTUS training meeting. There is one on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, from 6:15 to 9:15 p.m. at the Holy Name Catholic School.
Please keep our Confirmands in your prayers. There are five students from our parish that will be Confirmed Sunday, September 30, 2018, at St. Joe’s and St. Pat’s Church.
